April’s Twisted Sista | Christelle Humbert | Hummingbelle

This month’s Twisted Sista is one of our own. Christelle Humbert is the creative genius behind Twisted’s teal packaging, our website graphics and all things Twisted design. We chat to Christelle about life running her own design business Hummingbelle, including the highs and lows of being a #GirlBoss.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I craved freedom, both creatively and as an individual. I’ve always found it hard to fit into the 9/5 mould.

Have you always wanted to work in the design industry?

I’ve always wanted to work in the arts but not necessarily design. I studied fine arts, as well as graphic design, and my passion was drawing. I fell into design as I thought it was more lucrative.

How do you balance work and family time? Do you have a key routine that works for you?

I try to stick to family time between 5-8pm and I spend every Thursday doing fun stuff with my three year old. My days are jam-packed but I’m not one to sit still.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to start their own business?

Find the thing that sets you apart from your competitors, hone it in and build your business around it.

Tell us about a #girlboss that inspires you.

I’m a bit of a Gorman nut and I love Lisa Gorman’s work ethos. I particularly loved how she supported the ‘vote yes’ movement and handed out 5,000 free ‘love is love’ tees to people who were enrolled to vote.

What is your favourite thing about working for yourself?

I love having the freedom to work anywhere I like. No commutes or pointless meetings. And if I have creative block, I can just change my perspective and go for a walk.

…and least favourite?

The financial stress and sleepless nights worrying about everything. It’s hard to take time off too. When the work is there you need to take it.

If you were a Twisted Frozen Yoghurt flavour, what would you be?

Espresso martini with chocolate.

When you’re not showcasing some serious girl-boss hustle at Hummingbelle – How do you spend your down-time?

I love cooking with a wine and some old vinyl records playing in the background.

If you could share a glass of wine, with anyone (famous, not famous, living or dead) – who would it be and why?

I would love to have bubbles with Mirka Mora for her joie de vivre!
